Parish Contributions by Direct Debit

Anyone who wishes to make their contribution to the Church by direct debit are welcome to do so.  Forms are now available in the Parish Office and you can either collect one there or ring Angela on 051-830813 and a form will be forwarded to you.

St.  Vincent de Paul

The Ferrybank Conference of St. Vincent de Paul wishes to express their thanks to all who contributed to the Christmas Collection.  The Church Door Collection amounted to €1,824.  Donations received amounted to €1,430. Bringing the total to €3,254.  The Value Vouchers were distributed to 105 families and amounted to €5,850.

The latest edition of the ‘Ossory Times’ is still on sale from the Parish Office and costs €2.


Visiting the Sick

If you or someone you know is housebound and would like a visit from one of the Priests of the parish, please let us know.


Ferrybank Scout Group

The Ferrybank Scout group wish everyone a Happy New Year and welcome everyone back!  for 2014.  Meetings will resume as follows:-

Ferrybank Ladies A.R.A.

Meeting on Wednesday January 22nd in the Parish Centre at 8pm when all Association fees are due.



Piltown Community Centre in association with Kilkenny Leader Partnership and Kilkenny Carlow Education & Training Board (Kilkenny VEC) continues the popular Music Fundamentals Course series for 2014.

Adults, unemployed school-leavers and long-term unemployed who are resident in Co. Kilkenny (includes Ferrybank etc.) may participate and the course is free of charge.

The Spring term starts on 16th January 2014 and runs with twelve weekly evening tutorials. The course explores fundamental music theory including reading and writing musical notation and practical musicianship.

Operation Transformation

On Saturday 18th January 2014, the Operation Transformation National Walks will take place at venues all over Ireland. In Kilkenny, the walks are taking place in Castlecomer Discovery Park at 11am, Kilkenny City at 11am and Woodstock Gardens in Inistioge at 2pm. There will be a walk leader at each venue to guide the walk so no prior experience is necessary. The walks in Castlecomer and Woodstock will follow woodland trails and may be muddy underfoot. Comfortable shoes are advisable for these walks and of course don’t forget the raingear!

The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah, Son of God and Saviour of the World.  The great feast of Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East.  We  celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany with Masses on Monday 6th at 10am, 11am

Little Sisters of the Poor,

St. Joseph’s Home, Ferrybank.

We are looking for volunteers to run our shop  which is open for Residents and Visitors, Monday to Saturday.  If you are interested in volunteering to help, please contact Sr. Geraldine at St. Joseph’s Home   Contact 051-833006.


Little Sisters of the Poor

The Little Sisters of the Poor will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament this Sunday, 5th January, beginning at 12 noon and concluding with Evening Prayer & Benediction at 5.30pm in their Chapel. All are most welcome to call in and spend some time in quiet and Adoration before Our Lord present in the Blessed  Sacrament.


Books & DVD’s

The Willow Shop, located opposite Ringville National School, Ballinlaw, Slieverue is organising the Book & DVD corner. Everyone, who might have spare books and DVD’s is more than welcome to bring them along, swap them or just donate them to the book/DVD corner.  The Book and DVD corner will be available all year long. Slieverue & District A.R.A.

The AGM of Slieverue & Dist. ARA will be held on Wed. 8th Jan. @ 2pm. Please bring annual membership of €18 in an envelope with your name to the meeting. We wish to thank the management & Staff of The Athenaeum House hotel for their hospitality given at our Christmas dinner, also to those who provided entertainment. A happy 2014 to all.



Priority Guidelines in Booking Masses for Deceased Persons


Funeral Masses take precedence over all other Mass bookings.




The  Saturday Mass at 10am and the Sunday at 12 o’clock  will be reserved for   Funerals,  Months Minds and  First  Anniversaries.  Due to the number of requests for Anniversary Masses it would be helpful  if  families chose one Anniversary date for all the deceased family members, especially  with the passing of a number of  years.

World  Day  of  Prayer  for  Peace

Mass will be celebrated  here in Ferrybank for New Years Day at  10am on Wednesday January 1st, 2014.  We pray in a special way for peace in our world as we face into a new year.

Happy Christmas

We would like to wish all the parishioners of Ferrybank and their families, a very Happy Christmas  and  peaceful New  Year.

Peace Light

At our Saturday vigil Mass this weekend the Ferrybank Scout Group will present a peace light which has come from the Grotto of Christ’s Birth in the Church of the   Nativity, Bethlehem to scout groups from all over the world, to Ferrybank Church.   Parishioners are welcome to take a light with their own candles from this as it will be lighting at Masses over Christmas.   This chain of lights is a symbol of peace, warmth, love and family.


Christmas Collection

The Christmas Offerings for the support of the Priests of the parish will be taken up at this time.  Thank You.


Christmas High Mass

Christmas High Mass in the Traditional Rite at 9.30pm on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, in St. Patrick’s Church, Kilkenny, preceded by a short Carol Service.


Christmas Eve Family Mass

At 6.30pm on Tuesday we will celebrate the Mass of Christmas Eve with the children and families of our parish.


Christmas Eve Carols

On Christmas Eve our parish Choir will set the scene for the Vigil Mass.  Beginning at 8.30pm in the church, through beautiful songs and carols, the choir will help us to prepare for the celebration of the Vigil Mass of the Nativity of our Lord at 9pm.


Christmas List 2013

At our Vigil Mass to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord here in Ferrybank we remember in a special way all our deceased and on Christmas Eve all the names will be displayed in the Church for us to remember them and pray for them this Christmas.


Christmas Day

We will celebrate the Birth of our Lord with Masses at 10am, 11am and 12 noon.

15TH DEC., 2013. Third Sunday of Advent

3rd  Advent Candle 

The candles on the Advent Wreath are lit each week to build up our preparation for the coming of Christ.  The first candle represents HOPE.  The second candle represents LOVE.  The third candle represents JOY.  We pray for joy for each one of us; that the longing for happiness will be inscribed on our hearts and be fulfilled by Jesus. Help us turn from all the distractions of the season and focus on Him,  the source of all hope, peace, love and joy.

Penitential Service

The Parish Penitential Service in preparation for Christmas will take place on Wednesday  evening, 18th December  at   7.30pm.  All are encouraged to attend as part of our preparation for Christmas.

Taize Youth Pilgrimage

Diocesan Youth Pilgrimage to Taize, France organised by Ossory Youth and under the patronage of the Bishop of Ossory, will take place from 17th to 24th August, 2014.  The Taize community is an ecumenical monastic order in Taize, Saone-et-Loire, Burgundy, France.  Over 100,000 young people from around the world make a pilgrimage to Taize each year.

Review of Safeguarding Practice in the Diocese of Ossory

The Diocese of Ossory welcomes and fully accepts the findings of the Review of Safeguarding Practice in the Diocese of Ossory, undertaken by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland, NBSCCCI. You are encouraged to read the Report which is available on along with a Statement by Rt. Rev. Mgr. Michael Ryan, Vicar General, on behalf of Bishop Séamus Freeman, SAC., who is currently on sick leave. This Review is the result of the invitation by Bishop Freeman in June 2012 to the NBSCCCI to examine all Safeguarding files as well as all Policies and Procedures in the Diocese of Ossory.

St. Mary’s Boys’  N.S.

The boys from St. Mary’s Boys’ School will hold their annual Carol Service on Tuesday evening, 17th December at 7.30pm in the Parish Church.

Christmas Coffee Morning    

The last of our Christmas Coffee Mornings takes place on Tuesday morning next 17th Dec. from 10.30am to 12 noon in the Parish Centre.  Adm. €3 with a Christmas Fare, Mince Pies, Sales Table and Raffle.  Proceeds in aid of Parish Funds.  All are most welcome!

EU Funded Food Scheme 2013

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has made available free Cheese and Rice, under the above scheme.  These items will be available at your local Neighbourhood Office,   58 Ard Dáire, Ferrybank on Tuesday 17th December from 1.30pm to 4pm.  All those in receipt of a social welfare payment will qualify for this scheme.  Distribution is on a first come first serve basis.
